26 lighters of this type were taken over by Government in April or May 1946, in an unassembled state. They came from the Military Authorities, Hong Kong, as surplus to requirements but were for disposal on behalf of the Ministry of Transport. All were sold except these three retained by Government.
In the absence of the complete assemblies Nos.12 and 18-26 inclusive, were, on Ministry of Transport instructions, sold as scrap.
The Naval Authorities, Hong Kong, allocated this vessel to the British Military Administration (Civil Affairs) on the 27th February, 1946, as surplus to requirements and for use within the Harbour limits in the manner best calculated to relieve the strain on port facilities at this time.
The War Office accepted a demand for 2 only instead of 3 required under Military procurement. 1 vessel was received from Calcutta, and one from the United Kingdom in 1947.
